This is the group of Dounia, Eva, Sara, Olivier and Lindsey and it's about geothermal power.

[Can it be used in Nederlands or in Spain?] [In Spain it can't be used beacuse we haven't got the sufficent volcanic activity common also in Nederlands it can't be used because they don't have any tectonic plates frontier near and they don't have volcanic activity common so it is difficult to use de geothermal power in both places. Only in 24 countries can use the geothermal power because you need that the magma is near to the earth and only it happens when there is a volcano near the country]

[Where can you find geothermal power? geothermal power can only be made from some hotspot that have a lot of heat such as geysers. only with the heat there can be heated pockets of water underground, than the engineers can release the steam to let the turbines turn. you can only make geothermal power when you can heat the water underground. For example: iceland has many spots of geothermal energy , it has a lot of geysers so you can heat water underground and can make geothermal power.]

How does it work? The natural heat of the earth comes from a molten rock calles magma, located at the centre of the earth with a temperature of 5000 degrees centigrade. The rain water from the atmosphere and the water that they drill down seep down towards the centre of the earth then the magma heats the water until it becomes steam. below the geothermal resource wells are drilled 10.000 feet below the earth"s surface to reach the steam. These wells bring the steam to the surface of the earth to generate electricity.The steam goes into a turbine.Turbines are the most important equipment used to transform geothermal energy into electricity. The force of the steam is used to spin the turbine blades. When the blades turn a shaft, this shaft is directly connected to an electrical generator. It forms an electric charge that rotates the magnets in the generator. when the magnets turn copper bars carry the electrical charge. At the end the electrical charges are sent to a "step-up transformer" where the voltage of the electrical charges are increased and then the electricity is ready to use

Damage to natural geothermal features.Natural features such as hot springs, mud pools, sinter terraces, geysers, fumaroles (steam vents) and steaming ground can be easily, and irreparably, damaged by geothermal development. Subsidence.Extracting geothermal fluids can reduce the pressure in underground reservoirs and cause the land to sink. Polluting waterways.Geothermal fluids contain elevated levels of arsenic, mercury, lithium and boron because of the underground contact between hot fluids and rocks. Air emissions.Geothermal fluids contain dissolved gases which are released into the atmosphere. The main toxic gases are carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

Geothermal power plants use scrubber systems to clean the air of hydrogen and the other gases. Newer geothermal power plants can even inject these gases back into the geothermal wells. Geothermal energy is important to me because we can help save the earth by this although it had some bad causes to itself. An effect of geothemal power on the enviorment is that it take to much water from the ground and don’t replace it, the land might shrink and sink. If the under ground gases can escape. The gases would smell very bad or pollute the earth. ]

Conclusion Geothermal power is good to use, but there are better ways to make energy. Which are better for the environment and can be made on more places easily. Geothermal power cannot be used in all countries. You can use it in Iceland because there are a lot of geysers, but in the Netherlands it is difficult because they don’t have any tectonic plates frontier nearby. So it is not very Sustainable because you cant use it in every country.]
