-How does it work?
- Fossil fuel is a source of non-renewable energy.
- Coal, petroleum, natural gas, these are all considered as fossil fuels.
- Where can you find “plants” of this source?
Fossil fuels are non-renewable energy sources that formed more than 300 million years ago during the Carboniferous Period. They are made up of plant and animal matter.
Very large amounts of electricity can be generated in one place using coal, fairly cheaply.
Transporting oil and gas to the power stations is easy.
Gas-fired power stations are very efficient.
A fossil-fuelled power station can be built almost anywhere.
Basically, the main disadvantage fossil fuels is pollution. Burning any fossil fuel produces carbon dioxide, which contributes to the "greenhouse effect", warming the Earth. Burning coal produces more carbon dioxide than burning oil or gas. It also produces sulphur dioxide, a gas that contributes to acid rain.
Mining coal can be difficult and dangerous. Strip mining destroys large areas of the landscape.
What is the effect on the enviroment of fossil power:
- It produces a lot of Carbon Dioxide, it produces more Carbon Dioxide than burning oil or gas
- This Carbon Dioxide increases 25% of the global warming
- When the factories make fossil fuel a certain gas is produced this gas contains: carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and hydrocarbons this is also very bad for the enviroment and global warming
- It can also cause water pollution for example when they spill oil in waterways the whole waterway is affected because the oil has so many stuff in it it will spread very fast
- There also a lot of air pollution with the gas because of al the gasses in it it produces a lot of smog and this is one of the most important causes of air pollution
* How can we improve this horrible effects? :
- Well you can not recycle it so that's not an option
- There is no way to improve it or making more environment friendly
Where can you found fossil power?
- Fossil fuels is found over time in sand, sedimant and in rock buried these are the organic matter.
- These materials formed large quantities of fuels.
how does fossil power work
- coal or oil is burned to produce heat
- the heat converts water into steam
- the steam is used to drive a turbine, within the turbine is a wire, surrounded by electromagnets
- this generates electricity
what is a turbine?
- A steam turbine generator is a device that uses steam to rotate a turbine generator to produce electricity.
- Steam turbines use water that is heated to extremely high temperatures and converted into steam to rotate the blades of a turbine, in order to create mechanical or rotational energy. This rotational energy caused by the high pressured steam turbine is used to generate electricity in an attached generator. Steam turbine generators require an outside fuel source to heat water into the steam needed for electric production.

where does fossil power come from?
- Fossil power comes from fossil fuels which are found within the rocks of continents, islands, and below ocean and sea beds all over the earth. It is believed that this non-renewable form of energy was formed millions of years ago from geological processes that acted on dead animals and plants. there are a loads of diffrent types of fossil fuels for example: coal, oil, natral gases, wood, biomass and nuclear.
where are they to be found?
- They are made up of layers of earth which for example, most of our coal was formed about 300 million years ago, when most of the earth was covered by steamy swamps. As plants and trees died, their remains sank to the bottom of the swampy areas, and after a while layers are formed and eventually forming a soggy, dense material called peat.
- We now know how coal is made but what about oil and natural gas? oil is formed in the sea, as the microscopic plants and animals live in the sea and they absorbed energy from the sun, which was stored as a carbon molecules in their bodies. then they die and fall to the sea bed.
